Global Design Project has a nautical theme going on and I thought I’d sail right in after making a quick card. Wrong! This card took me two hours. That’s right, two hours! Wait until you see my card and you’ll wonder why. Here it is:
I started out with a certain sketch and color scheme in my head. I was using a navy and white striped background with a banner in red, along with the ship’s wheel. No matter how I tried it was awful! That’s when I decided to walk away for awhile.
Taking a break did the trick. I pulled out the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack and chose a piece that resembled water and sky. (There’s actually paper in the stack that looks like that, but I’d already used it up.)
Next, I took the ship’s wheel and the lighthouse and stamped and embossed them. I also stamped and embossed the sentiment from the Rose Wonder Stamp Set, and punched it out with an oval punch. The oval looked a bit plain so I added pearls.
Finally, I made a ship’s knot out of Very Vanilla Thick Baker’s Twine and added it to the top. Tah-dah! A card I was finally happy with!
How many of you have times like I had today? Tell me your story in the comments below.
Happy stampin’,
Robin
I love lighthouses! I love your card! The blue is perfect behind it! 🙂
Thanks Amanda! I'm really glad you like my card. Lighthouses have special meaning for me too.
Love this card…you're a master at the nautical knot! To the question you asked: many, many, many times….probably more times than I want to think about or I would have quit this hobby!!!
Ha, love it!! I can believe it took that long. I often have days and projects like that too Robin! The DSP used gives a lovely foggy quality, just when you need a lighthouse! Thanks for joining us at Global Design Project this week.
